Raleigh
Rally on June 4.
The League of Municipalities will be holding a gala event
to feed and attempt to influence our legislative folks the
evening of June 4. During the day of June 4th anti
annexation citizens from all parts of North Carolina will
be gathering in Raleigh to let our elected officials know
we care about what they do concerning forced annexation.
Polk County Citizens Against Forced Annexation (CAFA) plans
on renting a bus for the trip to the rally. The rally
will be an all day affair, leaving around 8am and most
likely getting home around 8pm if we leave the rally before
the silent march. CAFA is picking up the tab
for transportation.
If you are
interested in attending with us, send an email to
polkcafa@hotmail.com or call 859-5251 or
859-5633 and we will reserve a bus seat for you.
The planned schedule at the rally is:
1:30 p.m. WELCOME. Each group will be recognized.
Afternoon’s itinerary will be explained.
1:45 p.m. Legislative visits. As last year, we will have a
visitation schedule ready to go. Teams of two to three will
pick up a packet for handout, with a map containing the
names and offices of the legislators to be visited. The
StopNCAnnexation table will have the packets for the
offices in the Legislative Office Building and the FAC
table will have the packets for the Legislative
Building.
We expect many more folks than we will need for
these visits. Those not making visits may walk areas around
the two Legislative Buildings, down Jones Street, in
the Legislative hallways, up to the Capitol,
generally making themselves be seen. BE VISIBLE.
We need to hang out in the hallways to generally let the
League and the elected officials know we are there – have
handouts , etc.
3:30 p.m. RALLY. Settle in for a series of short,
informative presentations. Invitations will be going out to
our speakers soon, and as last year, we will have to be
somewhat flexible due to House and Senate Committee
meetings.
4:45 p.m. SILENT MARCH. To let everyone
know how we feel, our voices have traditionally NOT been
heard in the past, we will once again have a silent march,
carrying signs. The march will go past the Shadow
Government Building, also know as the North Carolina League
of Municipalities Building, and then across the street to
the Quorum, where a “meet and greet” using taxpayer
dollars, is being hosted by the League for members of
the General Assembly. A slight pause at this location is
possible.
WEAR
RED.
